Question

Always inside you,

Left by victims of blight,

Letting out glitter,

Obstructing the light.

Trying to help us,

Really just hurting,

Opening cuts,

Paper being dirtied.

Everyone knows I'm often up in the sky,

So can you tell me, what am I?

I've realized it might be a bit too obscure- here's another clue that might help you.

You might want to know

The author of this

Is fond of science and poetry

And nothing's amiss.

I MEGA NEWB

okay

air or gas or maybe even bacteria

Nope, but maybe the answer is found inside one of the substances in your first two guesses.

Bacteria...

Not it either.

Think of the "blight" in the second line as a method of causing something, and that will lead you more in the right direction.

:D
oxygen or carbon or matter even atom/molecules
did I win

Even though you took a somewhat random guess, it is:

Carbon.

Here's why:

Carbon is always inside you.

Victims of blight die, and over time their remains decompose into coal.

Diamonds (made out of carbon) let out glitter.

Carbon emmissions obstruct light's entrance into the atmosphere.

We use carbon (coal) for power, so it "tries" to help us, but global warming really hurts us.

Diamond is used to cut metals due to its sharpness.

And graphite (in the form of carbon) dirties paper by writing.

You may also notice the acrostic- ALLOTROPES, used to describe different substances made from the same compound (coal, graphite, diamond, etc.). Thanks for playing!

"Someday you will die somehow and something's gonna steal your carbon!"

Great Modest Mouse song!
