Question

If any man that is not permitted on the king's land, puts a foot on the king's land, then he will be brought to the king. The king will force him to speak but a single sentence. If this sentence is true, then the man is to die at the "True" statue. If this statement is false, then the man is to die at the "False" statue. One day a lost sailor anchored on the kings land and hopped off his boat. the guards quickly brought him away to the king. The king explained the conditions of his death and asked him to speak his final sentence. the sailor thought a minute and laughed. He told the sentence for everyone to hear, but when the king went to kill him at a statue he found it could not be done. What did the sailor say?

↓↓↓REAL SOLUTION↓↓↓

He said, "I will die at the 'False' statue."

I do agree with you on your solution . :D

This problem is now solved , yet another question is "Is there other solutions which can solve this riddle? " .

And I have a funny solution for this problem . :D

The sailor can say something that no one can understand , so no body can determine whether it is right or not:"!@#$ %!#$ !%^ !#@$ !%^!"

I would count that as false since that language doesn't exist

edit: Typo

Perhaps he pointed out that he had no feet to set upon the land in the first place, causing the King to reconsider his stance?

I am sorry but i do not understand why he would have no feet.

Welcome to the Den! :D:D

To answer your querry,

I only meant that since he "hopped off the boat" perhaps he had no feet to begin with, thus nullifying the letter of the law. The answer was mostly tongue-in-cheek

:P .

Since only declarative sentences have truth value,

the sailor could

  1. ask a question - May I have a cup of tea?
  2. state a demand - Allow me to call my attorney.
  3. exclaim something - Oh my gosh!

I'm sorry, I should have said statement.
