Question

A monk builds a hut out of the abundant materials around him.

The next day, as the monk sits in morning meditation, he is startled by crunching sounds outside.

Looking outside, the monk sees that a bear is eating his home!!

The monk tries to shoo away the bear, who turns and.....

question 1: What color is the bear?

question 2: What does the bear do next, and why? (bonus)

Like you need one...

question 3) What is the hut made out of?

edit: punched up the ambiguity, improved the riddle.

If the Monk is meditating outside, he is probably a Buddhist Monk in China. The abundant material would of course be bamboo. The bear is then a black and white Panda which, being quite docile, continues munching on the monk's delicious hut.

is black and white

the home is made of bamboo

The bear then - eats, shoots, and leaves.

Xucam of course got it in one!... If I had it to do over again,

replace monk with man and try to bait a few polar bear answers.

Of course another option is always:

The polar bear eats him!! What's a monk doing building igloos in the North Pole, anyway?!

The Giant Panda (Chinese: 大熊貓; Hanyu Pinyin: dàxióngmāo; Tongyong Pinyin: dàsyóngmao; Wade-Giles: ta⁴hsiung²mao¹) (Ailuropoda melanoleuca, literally "cat-foot black-and-white") is a bear native to central-western and southwestern China.[2] The Giant Panda was previously thought to be a member of the Procyonidae (raccoon) family.

mind you, that's from wiki....

anywho, the merriam-webster says it's a bear too.

Main Entry: pan·da
Pronunciation:\ˈpan-də\
Function:noun
Etymology: French, perhaps from a language of the southeast Himalayas
Date:1835
a large black-and-white mammal (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) of chiefly central China that feeds primarily on bamboo shoots and is
now usually classified with the bears (family Ursidae) —called also giant panda[/codebox]

Interesting riddle though... but I would have never cracked it ;)

Panda is not a bear <_<

I was right there with you, but about 10ish years ago, the giant panda got moved from the Racoon family tree over to the Bear family tree.......ah, the joys of DNA........

The bear is black and white

The house is made of bamboo

When the monk shoos him away, he keeps on eating and lumbers away,

being a kind animal

Darn, too late.

Lookee what I found...

Looks like the bear could also have been this

fella. Apparently, this Asian Black bear competes with the Giant Panda for territory and likes to eat bamboo as well.

I really need to learn to NOT post first drafts...
