Question

Inspector Slick and his people surrounded the Library of Redrum University and no one was allowed to enter ….Emm… well, except a few persons: Prof. Templeton, Y-san, CL, FIF, andromeda and ST.

2 guards were found in unconsciousness condition when the Library staff who came early at work discovered the main door has been opened by force. They quickly called for ambulance and police. Besides all these, to their surprise, they also discovered something that they would never imagine it can be exist at their working place – a secret tunnel.

While Y-san and CL were investigating together with some police officers on how do the burglary and attack happened, Prof. Templeton brought FIF, andromeda and ST entered to the secret tunnel.

The tunnel became dimmer and dimmer as they moved further away from the entrance. They turned on their torchlight and about 10 minutes later, they found out that they couldn’t move any further. There was an iron gate in front of them. Beside the iron gate which was locked, 24 keys each made from different material neatly hung beside the walls.

There was actually another heave metal door standing still 10 feet away from the iron gate. In between the iron gate and the metal door, there are 4 stone cubes located inside the wall, name Fire, Earth, Wind and Water each.

“Secret Chamber? I never thought we have such place in Redrum University?” said Prof. Templeton.

“I think we should unlock the iron gate by one of these 24 keys. But which one?” FIF looked around the wall.

“Couldn’t we just try one by one?” asked andromeda

“There maybe some traps here!” ST warned.

“You are right, look at there!” Prof Templeton pointed his torchlight to one of the corner of the iron gate.

“A human skeleton?! How long does it been at here?” andromeda

“I am totally feeling uneasy now, shall we go out?” ST suggested.

FIF didn’t hear what ST said. He already approached to the skeleton and found a book beside it.

“A diary” FIF scowled. He immediately flipped the ‘diary’, read every page and finally shown the last page to the others

“The clue…” FIF said…

And this is what written in the last page of the ‘diary’

A very good start!

First of January slotted into month of 12,

Agent 5 is no longer bow his head anymore.

Figure out what the above said,

Open the lock using the 3129 key;

Then take out the cube related to 6724.

Inside there will be some cards,

Take the right one, 159;

Put it into the slot of the metal door.

“What do all these mean?” ST puzzled.

“Method to open that metal door and find something inside?” asked andromeda.

So, the spirit of solving puzzles has overcome the feeling of fear in the tunnel. The 3 youngsters started thinking any possibilities. Leaving Prof Templeton sitting at one of the corner and pondering: Can they figure out? I hope they can find the answers quickly. Otherwise I have to be waiting in this dim tunnel with them. Sigh~

Can you help?

Glad to be back again! And I'm completely confused...

Only the riddle matters, right? And is this similar to the last hunt, where we had to find words and realize what was the similarity between them?

Andromeda thinks hard and decides to try to work backwards!

Hm... a card 159 that's three letters so it could be ACE or TWO.

A...C...E

T...W...O

Wait maybe the first clue will help!

First of January inside the 12th month... I know J inside DEC... I got it!!

Spoiler for ...:

ADJECTIVE!!! Yes it's not FIVE but TIVE!

So we already know what card do we have to use it's ACE!

We need to use the 3129 key, it's JADE!

And a cube related to the word 6724, that's tide so it's the WATER cube!

OK lets hurry now I wanna leave this dreadful place!

Thanks Woon I really enjoyed this treasure hunt! :D

********** from me! ;)

WHOA THAT WAS FAST! I HAD NO IDEA! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

You know how I usually ask questions and try to guess individual clues... well this time I decided not to give anyone any ideas nor to expect any clues from anyone else... I put on my thinking cap and deciphered it on my own. And I'm proud of it! :D

Now I'm only interested what's behind the locked door??

I hope it's a car and not a goat

EDIT: Well one thing pops my mind for you to say Woon... Hurray maybe?! ;)

I know... too soon... don't put me in your next treasure hunt! I saw my name and felt obligated to crack the message! Next time just write down some students were there or something, or the clue was presented to a class by their Professor and he was hoping that one of them will solve the mystery or something and then you mention those that were working on the riddle in the epilogue just like you did with your first treasure hunt! :)

I just realized that I made a tiny logic error... so here is my correct train of thoughts!!

Hm... a card 159 that's three letters so it could be ACE or TWO, SIX or even TEN!

Wait maybe the first clue will help!

A very good start is when you get an A so the card is ACE!

A...C...E

First of January inside the 12th month... I know J inside DEC... I got it!!

Spoiler for ...:

ADJECTIVE!!! Yes it's not FIVE but TIVE!

So we already know what card do we have to use it's ACE!

If it's not too much trouble, would you mind explaining the number thing (3129 = Jade, something = tide...) to poor stupid me? :D:D:D

The Closing

Prof Templeton kept sighing and removed his coat as it become warmer and warmer in the tunnel. FIF pondered: Could the first 3 sentence lead to a common title, just like how we solved Prof Earnest’s hints?

Andromeda suddenly sat on the ground and took out a pen she carried along and start writing something on the ground. Within 10 minutes time the tunnel is packed with her cheerful yell: Got it! Got it!

FIF, ST and Prof Templeton moved forward to her and saw what she was writing. On the ground they cleared saw something

159 could be ACE, Two,,,or wait, TEN, SIX, …..

1) If ACE = 159, then A - - - C - - - E

2) if TWO = 159, then T - - - W - - - O

And …

A very good start => ‘A’ is a good start!

- - - C ……. DEC! 1st of Jan in the Dec, ops! DJEC

So ADJEC---E

---E = agent 5 = five

ADJECFIVE? Tive! The head is not bowing! ‘f’ become ‘t’!

Adjective!

159 = ace!

6724 = tide => water!

3129 = jade => key material is jade!

FIF looked at Andromeda with impress. “Revised thinking method!” andromeda replied proudly.

So she quickly took the right key and unlock the iron gate. When they entered to the next cell, FIF took the suggest cube and indeed found a set of cards at the inner. He took the right card as what Andromeda suggest and passed to her. Andromeda took a deep breath before she slotted the card into the metal door.

Door opened. What in front their eye almost make them blind! There were a few stacks of shinny gold coins and few chests of jewelry located on a desk, which is located on the one corner of the room.

Prof Templeton frowned “Why do I have a feeling like I have seen the layout like this before?” What he didn’t notice is the 3 youngsters walking and touching around every item in the room.

“Children! Stop messing all these stuff. Lets go up and report to Inspector Slick.” So all of them quietly leaving the room and walked out from the tunnel. Prof Templeton informed Inspector Slick about what they did and seen.

All of the sudden, the tunnel closed by itself. They tried to do anything around yet the tunnel does not be shown again.

Inspector slick looked at them and said “I don’t know what actually happened to the tunnel, but you all are very lucky to come out before it closed!”

~Epilogue~

In the same night, someone has sneaked back to library, toggled some switches and the tunnel was opened again.

Being standing beside Inspector slick and listen what the young people said help this mysterious person able to pass all the riddles and enter to the room!

The person looked around, found the gold coins and jewelry chests remained untouched. The person checked again the surrounding then yelled “Where are they? Where are those things? Those students…..AAAAHHhh! Among all these things, why don’t you take the coins? Why don’t you take the chests? Why do you take those things?!!!”

The person expressed the anger by throwing things all around. “They are gone! I swear to get all these back! LISTEN, Professor and the 3 students! I swear I WILL GET THEM BACK FROM YOU!!!!”

The End
