OK, I was thinking Japan could be considered a single stripe of white (either up or across, occupying the whole flag) with a cherry in the middle!

But if you want white stripes, what's wrong with Denmark? I don't think England could be considered to have white stripes any more than Japan does - it's a white background with a red cross...

the clue was long and tall on blank with cherries, long and tall meant two stripes one vertically, one horizontally and on blank meant on a plain or a white background (most people got that much) cherries well its red? thats pretty much it, i didnt want to overthink it i suppose if i had to come up with a clue for japan it would be....
