0 Guest
Actually, the answer is indeterminate. On a circular track, if you're in first place and overtake second place, you're still in first place.

0 Guest
actually thats ture but all the runners have to be very slow then The question didn't specify anything about relative speeds. You could also pass someone and not change your relative position, if you're a lap behind the person you overtake.

0 Guest
Over taking any position in a race puts the runner in that place. In this one, becoming second. Lol, not first.
0 Guest
Over taking any position in a race puts the runner in that place. In this one, becoming second. Lol, not first. So you lap last place and become last .....Mmmmmm!

0 Guest
There are three diffrent answers, depending on the lap you are on and the lap the person in second place before you overtake him or her is on. You end up in second place, with the person you just overtook now in third place. You stay in first place, even though you have lapped second place. You stay in the posision you were in, but you have undone a lapping. Therefore, if you was last, you stay in last, and if you was in fourth place, you would still be in fourth place. However, if you pass another person AT THE SAME TIME, and that person is first, AND you are on the same lap as both second AND first, this fourth answer is correct. You are now in first place, having gained two places. And there you have it.

0 Guest
2nd place, though many people confuse the meaning of overtake and say that you're in 1st. It's not the expression OVERTAKE,it's just how people think about it...everybody I asked this first said 1ST,then thought about it for 5 secs, then said 2ND. I didn't even ask them in english,so...it's not the expression...
