Question

Just curious, they say if one is insane they do not know they are insane.

*This puzzled the cross-dressing Klinger who was trying to get out of the army (claiming insanity) in the old tv show MASH.

*This statement is also the basis of pretty much the entire plot of the book/movie Catch-22.

My question is this:

If you are legitametly insane, and you discover that you are insane, are you completely and instantly cured? Or does it become

completly impossible for a completely insane person to know that they are insane?

just curious...

It primarily depends on the severity of the case. Some years back they would try to correct peoples mental disfunctions with electric shock treatment to the head. It may have worked for some, but others just got worse or stayed insane forever. Many died from it also.

Doctors will say that that the first step to recovery is acknowledging the problem and understanding it.

Rarely, is anyone cured instantly from anything. I'm sure it is possible seldomly. Mental therapy for years is usually recommended. Institutions are full of people who are trying to over-come insanity.

Welcome to the DEN as well. :D

I think insane individuals can know that they are different from everyone around them, and from that they may be able to deduce that they are "insane" depending on what their illness is.

yes welcome to th den - where the insane live

Yeah we are very insane.

That would explain the random killings in just about every part of the forum...

I guess you could say I'm very insane, cause I am pretty much the resident murderer around here. Just take a look at the sig :P

Wait no, you can't say I'm insane, cause I just said I'm insane, which means that I'm cured from my insanity! Haha!

Great question. I know two people who are schizophrenic. I would say that if yo know you are insane you are not cured.

If you take your meds you realize you are insane but that can drive you mad.

I think there are spells of different levels of insanity due to hormones flowing through your body.

If the reality in your head doesnt match the reality outside you are insane. Some people are aware of this imbalance.

Most of them are homeless and should be in a state hospital. Oh

but wait Reagan got rid of those. Saved us a whole 40.00 a year per person....

I would gladly pay 100 a year in taxes for that system to be back in place.
