This is not an original puzzle but I didn't find it with searches so here goes... (Apologies is if it is a repeat)
The queen of the wonderful yet fictitious land of Lemon City had employed a nightwatchman. One day the queen decided to go to Melon Country, another wonderful yet fictitious place far, far away. But then the nightwatchman told her that while he was working he had had a dream that the aeroplane that the queen was going to fly on would be involved in a crash with no survivors. So, on the nightwatchman's advice, the Queen stayed at home. The next day, she read in the newspaper that the flight she was going to take to Melon Country did indeed crash, and no-one lived. To thank the nightwatchman for telling her about his vision and in effect saving her life, she paid him lots of money but then sacked him from his job. The question is, why did she fire him?
