Question

It's the weekend! Saturdays and Sundays are the days that Sheila, Ramon, and Niko shop together for music.

The CD'S they perchase are either rock or jazz. they each only buy one CD per day. Here are some rules for their selections.

1. Either Sheila or Ramon will pick rock, but not both of them.

2. If Sheila picks rock, Niko picks Jazz.

3. Niko and Ramon do not both pick jazz.

Which one of the three purchased a jazz CD on Saturday and a rock CD on Sunday?

They need to go online and buy MP3s instead - But with names like Shiela, Ramon and Niko you have to figure they're old school.

Shiela can never buy Rock, because anytime she does, Niko picks Jazz, but whenever Niko picks Jazz, Ramon must pick Rock, which can't ever happen because Shiela and Ramon can never both pick Rock. So...

It's Niko.

Shiela buys Jazz both days, Ramon buys Rock both days, and Niko can buy either one. Technically the puzzle is not fully solvable because we have no guidance on which day Niko buys Jazz & which day he buys Rock. The question asks, "Which one purchased" but to be more clear, should ask, "which one could buy..."

Based on a quick evaluation, my answer is

Niko. Reason being if Sheila picks rock then both Ramon and Niko would have to pick Jazz, which is in contradiction to Rule 3.

Niko.

The person has to be able to buy either a jazz or a rock CD.

It's not sheila because if she picks rock then ramon and niko will bothhave to pick jazz. not possible.

its not ramon because if he picks jazz then sheila will pick rock and therefore nicko will buy jazz. nicko and ramon will both have jazz. not possible.

only nicko can buy rock or jazz.
