Question

Not sure if this is a repost. I searched but didnt get any result, so posting. Apologies if its a repost.

There are 5 sacks, each filled with thousands of coins. One sac contains fake coins. The original coin weighs 10 grams and fake coin weighs 9 gram. There is a weighing machine, which can be used only once. Find out which sac is filled with fake coins.

Plz use spoilers for answers.

Take 1 coin from the first sac, two from the second sac, three from the third, four from the fourth and five from the fifth. Now weigh them. Ideally they should have weighed 150 grams. If this lot weighs 149 grams then there is only one fake coin. It must be from sac 1. If there is a shortfall of 2 grams then they are from sac 2. Following this method if there is a shortfall of n grams then the nth sac contains fake coins. Obviously in this case 'n' cannot take any value other than 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
