Question

I make a tic and a toc,

I am time, but not a clock.

I'm in a tube, within a slot,

I come in sets, and inside spots.

I've been around for score on score,

and I want to stay for many more.

So I would not venture near a fox,

I was rather safer in a box.

Did you ever notice me?

If so, you know what I must be.

Good luck. The answer will fit all the clues.

No correct answers so far. Might be a little complicated but I promise all the clues fit well. I'll add another clue in a little bit if nobody gets it.

Is it an hour glass or egg timer?

Here's your new hint... it should make things a good bit easier.

My name could easily be made quite shorter,

It's like saying "twenty-five cents" when you could say "a quarter."

Someone is very close... Find out who and why they're still wrong in the spoiler box.

Frost is close, but a television does not go tic toc, nor is it time... unless...

sorry. not a bad guess, but wrong. the correct answer fits much better. I mean, it's true that a number probably would not go near a fox, but it doesn't really make much sense either.

Congrats to...

akaslickster! 60 Minutes goes tic toc when it comes on, 60 Minutes is time, but certainly isn't a clock. It's on the boob tube in a time slot, in a TV set, and on TV spots. They'es been around for two score (40 years). They're on CBS, not Fox. And it's (Dan) Rather (Morley) Safer in a box (the TV). The last sentence is a nod to Andy Rooney's segment which often begins "Did you ever notice?" Hope you all liked my first riddle.

Wunderbar! It really ticked my tock and then I saw the stopwatch. :D You did a great job disguising. Funny when I saw score on score I thought of 20/20. Edited by akaslickster
