Question

A mother just came back from the market.

Child : Mum, how many fishes you have bought today?

Mother : Well, I have bought six fishes without head, nine fishes without tail and eight fishes with half of the body.

Child : Wow!

Question: If a complete fish is considered to have head, body and tail. How many fishes did the mother buy?

Have fun!

Greetings,

Without clarification on the fish the mother said she bought, it is difficult to be sure which answer is correct, but here are my two options:

14. If the descriptions are separate, then you get 12 body halves and 6 tails from the first batch, 9 heads and 18 body halves from the second batch and 8 heads, tails and body halves from the final batch.

This gives 14 tails, 17 heads and 38 body halves (19 pairs of body halves) which could be combined into 14 complete fish with parts left over.

0. If the categories are not separate, then it could be that the six fish without heads also have no tails and are missing half their body. Two of the three remaining fish without tails could also be missing half their body. This would give you 6 fish with half a body each (but no head or tail), 2 fish with half a body and a head (but no tails) and one fish with a head and a complete body (but no tail).

Regards.

8 because eight have half the body but can have the other half too to make 8 full fishes. the other 6 and 9 dont countif you dont stick halves together to make wholes)[/

9: six without head or tail and 3 without tail but have head and rest of body. (if you dont stick halves together to make wholes)

17 (if u cant add up)

edit: added "if u dont stick halves together to make wholes"

0, because '6' without the top is '0', '9'without the bottom is '0' and '8' is made out of 2 '0's, therefore if you half it it would be 0

Bingo. Nice Job zuozhu! :D
