Question

Shrek might understand

The intricacies of me

In Air or on land

Preferably not the sea

I can go left

Or I can go right

With too much heft

I may be out of sight

So don’t be mad

For wherever I roam

If you speak Happy

I may find a home

No guesses yet? How 'bout a few more lines...

My complexion's not perfect

Though I have no pimples

Take a look at my face

And you may see a few dimples

Let's see if beginner's luck will work for me :)

Golf Ball

Although I don't see how Shrek fits in all of this.

Nice one, you are correct..."Layers, Donkey!. Ogres have layers!"...so do your answer. It was meant to throw guessers off from the beginning, but it does make sense if you think about it. ;)

Shrek may also reference being Scottish? If I'm not mistaken, though I'm hardly proficient in the sport, it originally came from Scotland. I too, would think it would be a:

Perhaps Shrek refers to the "green" in golf? A golf ball is the only answer that makes sense to me.

I still like my answer, because it made more sense with Shrek.

A fly: Shrek lives with flies, so he would "understand" its intricacies.

A fly flies in the air and lands on land, but you don't see flies over the sea - nowhere to land! oh no little fly!

A fly can obviously fly left or right, and by 'heft' and 'out of sight', how many times have we tried to squat one only to watch it fly away to who knows where?

'Don't be mad wherever I roam', that's a fly's request, but I'm still gonna be mad when I see one.

And now for the gross part: Speak Happy, and you have to open your mouth - a fly's home?!? Gross! (but it fits)

I guessed this before the last lines, but it even fits those.

A fly's eyeballs are all "dimply"/pitted (if I recall correctly) - ugly little creatures.

Well,

golf ball

works well, and it is the OP's call.

Nuts. I'll get the next one.

The last four lines all refer to the movie Happy Gilmore. When Happy (Adam Sandler) is first learning how to putt, his partner for the tournament tells him something like "...the ball wants to go home, send it home...". Happy then proceeds to miss the put and goes crazy yelling at his ball, saying things like "Why don't you go home...are you to good for your home?!?" And for anyone that plays golf, you know that your first two or three shots are way off line, you can still save par with a good putt.

Your fly idea is great too...that's half the fun of these riddles, seeing the answers that others can come up with. ;)
