Guest Posted May 1, 2008 Report Share Posted May 1, 2008 Right, seeing as the first one was solved so quick (but come on, it was my first post ) I'll try another one quickly. I can light up the room at this midnight soiree, this open-air party where barons do play; I'll battle with cards till you'll think that I'm done, spades come up trumps and you'll soon see I've won. Though not on this velvet plain will your victory be, more when your weapon comes to embrace me. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
0 Guest Posted May 8, 2008 Report Share Posted May 8, 2008 This one is kicking my rear end ... I had three guesses, but none fit exactly, and I noticed a number of posts already, so I decided to be courteous and check to see if the correct answer was already posted, before posting my guess. To my utter dismay, ALL 3 OF MY GUESSES had been guessed already and utterly rebuffed. Back to the drawing board ... But, I'd like to suggest the following: One of Agatha Christie's female heroines, such as Mrs. Marple(sp?) or another one? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

0 Guest Posted May 9, 2008 Report Share Posted May 9, 2008 Before it said a women, I wanted to say edgar allen poe because of his story "masque of the red death" which would fit the criteria of the riddle. Since it's a woman I'll say Emilly Dickenson. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Since it's a woman I'll say Emilly Dickenson. Ah we're getting closer! Moving along the right lines - but remember, this is not the author; we're looking for the character. It was written by a very famous English poet, and the character (the beautiful, card-playing heroine) is what we're looking for. I will say again - literature readers have a better chance here, but don't let that put you off p.s. giterdone, I love edgar allen poe isn't 'The Raven' wonderful? Right, seeing as the first one was solved so quick (but come on, it was my first post ) I'll try another one quickly.
I can light up the room at this midnight soiree,
this open-air party where barons do play;
I'll battle with cards till you'll think that I'm done,
spades come up trumps and you'll soon see I've won.
Though not on this velvet plain will your victory be,
more when your weapon comes to embrace me.
