Question

The monks from one monastery were expecting to come pilgrims. The abbot of the monastery said to the others that he wants all of the piligrims to be into the square house, which has two floors and eight rooms on each of the floors(stairs at the middle and on each side of the building there are 3 rooms). He asked also the piligrims to be allocated this way, that on each side of the building to be 11 people and the number of the persons on the second floor the be double then the first. Each room has to be busy and do not be more than 3 persons into room.

The monks did that, but when the piligrims came they were with 3 more, than the monks new.No matter what the monks did what the abbot asked them. The question is how many piligrims should come and how manu actually came? How the piligrims were allocated in both cases?

in the beginning monks waited 27 pilgrims to arrive and they should have been allocated this way -

1st floor 2 . 1 . 1

............. 1 ... .. 1

............. 1 . 1 . 1 - 9 people

2nd floor 3 . 1 . 3

.............. 1 ...... 2

.............. 3 . 2 . 3 - 18 people

in total 5 . 2 . 4

........... 2 ...... 3

........... 4 . 3 . 4 - 27 people

Actually 30 pilgrims came and they were allocated this way

in total 4 . 4 . 3

........... 4 ...... 4

........... 3 . 4 . 4 - 30 people

I'm running out of time now... hopefully someone will show how were the pilgrims allocated exactly.

They were expecting 27 pilgrims. But actually 30 pilgrims came.

First case:

1st floor there are 9 pilgrims and 2nd floor there are 18 pilgrims

2nd floor 8 2 8 = 18

1st floor 3 3 3 = 9

(8+3=11)

2nd floor 3rooms in one side of building, so allocate 8 people in them. Otherside also the same. In the middle 2 rooms are there. Allocate 2 people like 1 person in each room.

1st floor 3rooms in one side of building, so allocate 1 in each room. Otherside also the same. In the middle 2 rooms are there. Allocate 3 people like 1 person in one room and 2people in the other room.

Second case:

But actually 3more came i.e 27+3 = 30

2nd floor 8 4 8 = 18+2 = 20

1st floor 3 4 3 = 9+1 = 10

Just as above for side room allocation and for 2 middle rooms allocate 2 people in each room.

1st floor side rooms also just like above and middle 2 rooms allocate 4 people like 2 people in each room.
