Question

A major fast-food chain held a contest to promote sales. With each purchase, a customer was given a card with a whole number less than 100 on it. A $100 prize was given to any person who presented cards whose numbers totaled 100. Jamie collected cards containing 3,9,12,15,18,27,51,72,84. Can you find a winning combination? Can you suggest how the contest could be structured so there would be at most 1000 winners throughout the country?

i dont think its possible to get 100 using those numbers cause they are all multiplies of 3 and the closest you can get it 99.

Given that all the numbers will be multiples of 3, then 1000 game pieces should be made up with the number 4. Assuming the thousand people who got the number 4 game piece played regularly, they would win. This isn't the only solution, but is probably the simplest.

It doesn't say that they are all multiples of three....that just happens to be what was collected.

So just make them all multiples of 3 except for the 1000 cards with 4 on it...then it works
