Question

A young man tried to marry the princess, but the king found out and offered him a sporting chance. He would place two slips of paper in a box, one marked Death, and one marked Princess. To decide his fate, the young man would be blindfolded and chose one paper. The young man found out that the king didn't want him to marry the princess, therefore intending to mark both slips as Death.

The young man got the princess in spite of this.

How?

Pulls out a slip, looks at it and eats it while declaring it said princess. Now they must open the remaining one to confirm his claim, since it shows death, then they must assume he drew out the princess.

Reminiscent of Frank R Stockton's short story "Frank R Stockton "The Lady, or the Tiger?" For any interested, it is on line at http://www.readbookonline.net/readOnLine/251/

But...he's BLINDFOLDED?!?!

He can skip the part of saying that the paper reads Princess, and just eat it. The king wouldn't admit that he cheated and both papers read Death.

And psychic! Doesn't need to see it to be able to declare it said princess!

nope. If he ate it, the princess and everyone would want to know which one he picked. When they looked at the other one, it would say Death, so they would all think that he chose the slip saying Princess.

He thought that the king would try this underhanded skullduggery; thus, he simply ate the slip of paper that he drew. When the king pulled out he other slip, it read death. Then the king had to say that the suitor picked the princess slip or admit cheating.

What about when the King pulls the same trick. He pulls out the remaining slip. He claims that his slip says princess, and then he eats it. He then has someone stick their finger down the blindfolded guys throat. The blindfolded guy vomits up a slip marked death.
