Create 3 squares, then divide each one to have 12 squares, which is divisible with 4.

Luckily this was enough to find a solution.

Another solution...

if starting at top each of the three squares discussed is labeled

A B

C D E

F G H

Then draw three lines

F to D

F to B

F to E

Stack your four identical shapes... LOL

Additionally, a diagonal drawn from the topmost right corner and the rightmost top corner will yield four L's of equal size.

Bow to the paint skills.
