Attempt at translation...

You want the second number where the letters equal the number.

Like

1 != one = 15+14+5 = 34

but where they are equal?

My feeling is that this is on the right track (I came up with the same result when I attempted it), but it isn't an answer to this particular puzzle. There is definitely some math and logic here, but it is of a more lateral kind, I suppose. That's probably what makes it "harder than it looks".

Just a puzzle. I don't remember where I found it (some book), but thought others might like it. You solved it very quickly.

Was wondering since you didn't seem to know the answer until it was provided.

As for speed... It is easy with excel and a macro to calculate word values.
