Question

China is out-stepping the United States in nuclear power production by using MSR's. Should America follow the lead? This topic is to discuss the Pro's and Con's of MSR as well as the United States employing it.

Yeah...I was talking about the meltdown. I dunno much about MSRs....I had to read about it....it seems safe, but ionic compounds are not very predictable, are they?

Anyway...if it works well....it can revolutionise the world of nuclear energy, though I don't think trying to 'out-do' China is a bright idea.....:)

I also thought about using ionic compounds as fuel....but there are a lot of disadvantages, so there's not much to say.....:(

Chemistry is not my strongest point, I don't understand the ionic compounds problem you keep suggesting.

Ionic compounds corrode metal easily.....well, salt does.....so you'd have to use expensive metals like gold or silver as wires....:(

They thought about that too. While researching the MSR's, I found that they make the chamber out of granite as the salt does not corrode it and the pores are too small for salt to fit in.

Any other thoughts on it? :/ I was really hoping for some more extensive talk on this subject as I am trying to understand it.

I'm sure that people can Google it to find something, but they might more readily participate if you provide a link to something that you already found. If you've been reading an article online for researching about MSR, you could start by linking to the article here. Then people can read it and comment on it. :)
