Detective Max Gaetanno arrived at the grisly scene only minutes after getting the call – “Woman found dead in room 517 of the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
After looking over the bloody mess that was once a woman, he asked the coroner about time of death. “Based on body temperature, 2:30am, give or take 20 minutes” was his answer. Max then turned his attention to the visibly shaken husband. Max asked him to describe what happened. The story went like this:
“It was about 1:30 in the morning and I couldn’t sleep. I didn’t want to wake my wife so I grabbed $50 and went down to the casino. I began playing the slot machine and won a small jackpot. I took the $200 I then had and played a little Blackjack. Pretty soon I was up about $1,000 so I went over and started playing Craps. I was winning for a while so I was betting pretty heavy and boom, just like that, I was broke. I looked up at the clock and it was 3:30am and I remember thinking “hmmmm, in two hours I went from $50 to $1000 and then down to zero. I was pretty tired by then, I guess the adrenaline of winning had worn off so I came back up to my room and this is what I found. I called the police and here we are. What do you think happened to my wife, Detective?”
Max thought it over for a moment and responded. “I think your story is a lie and you killed her. Officers, arrest this man.
