Question

This is my take on the old “Password Riddle”. This is my first post here…so I am anxious to see your responses. This might be too hard or possible very easy…but it can be solved.

You want to enter an exclusive club but you don’t know the password. You wait until there is a line so that you can hear the other member’s responses…

A member knocked on the door and the doorman said, "news vote"

The member considered this for a moment and replied, "nine" and was let in.

A second member came to the door and the doorman said, "teething"

The member considered this for a moment and replied, "eighteen" and was let in.

A third member came to the door and the doorman said, "teen hero"

The member considered this for a moment and replied, "four" and was let in.

Now it is your turn…you knock on the door and the doorman says “even for us”

Please provide the correct response & the way you came to the answer.

Good Luck.

I think the answer is eleven. "news vote" anagrams to seven two, thus the answer is nine. "teething" is eight ten, so eighteen. "teen hero" is three one, so four. “even for us” is seven four, so eleven.

Edit: correcting a little mistake.

This is correct...that took no time at all. Nice work.

Edit: I thought it would be harder to crack :(

I will make the next one harder and unrelated to anagrams :)

I actually used anagram genius for the first one, then my trial expired and I had to do the other ones "by hand", so to speak. Nice puzzle.

...Nice puzzle.

Maybe you should add the spoiler tags to your post so that others are not so easily lead to the answer? After all your post above does contain a HUGE hint.. hehe

I am glad you liked it.

"eleven"

"news vote" is an anagram of "two" and "seven", and two plus seven equals nine.

"teething" is an anagram of "eight" and "ten", and eight plus ten equals eighteen.

"teen hero" is and anagram of "one" and "three", and one plus three equals four.

"even for us" is an anagram of "four" and "seven", and four plus seven equals eleven.

Therefore, the response to give the doorman is "eleven". Though he might let you in with any of the responses "tree height", "vise fix", "no teen", "win note" or "zen ere love".
