South Carolina and Kentucky

Though only partially

Yet far more common than two

Common enough for you to see them too

Mortar and plaster and sandy water

The carrier prone to slaughter

Look at the forest from the trees

Go on up and catch the breeze

Yet far more common than two

Common enough for you to see them too -- plenty of hawks out there

Mortar and plaster and sandy water -- a hawk is also defined at the metal sheet used to hold mortar, a mixture of plaster and sand and water

The carrier prone to slaughter -- hawks are hunted by poachers

Look at the forest from the trees

Go on up and catch the breeze -- they're birds, so they fly

Pleasant can be the first thought

But when heard...well, we'd rather not -- hawks are cool birds, but hawk also means to cough up or something gross like that

Come on, go and pack up the gear

Call into the streets for all to hear -- "hawk: to offer for sale by calling out in the street"
