Question

As far as I know this one has a unique solution.. let's see if I am wrong:

By using the numbers 1, 3, 4, and 6, with any mathematical operation +, −, ×, and ÷, brackets, make the number 24. Each number must be used once and only once. Decimal points are not allowed at any place. Mathematical operations can be used any number of times..

three different solutions have already been found above me (although only Hugo's follows the official rules) but here's a fourth:

1 * 4_C_3 * 6 = 24

where nCr is combination, ie, "n choose r" or n! / (r! (n-r)!)

therefore 4_C_3 = 4! / (3! 1!) = 4! / 3! = 4

if I had a piece of paper I could write it without the c, it's just a parentheses with numbers on top of the other, it's quite common. Therefore it would follow the rules of the OP of just parentheses and numbers and the basic four operators :P
