Question

hi guys.... :D

I have been having a few problems with physics lately (even though I love it):).....can anyone give me tips on learning physics without mugging up? Even when I do read and study continuously, I can't get equations and theories and i get completely mixed up....:( Please help....

Are we talking Newtonian (easier) physics rather than Einsteinian (much more complicated but slightly more accurate)?

I think this question is more about general revision/understanding of a subject as the same would apply to maths in my experience. The only advice I can offer is try to keep different areas separate even though they use similar terms or relate to similar things. Do you have similar issues with differentiation and integration?

Try thinking like Einstein, and use your imagination. Find visual ways to remember equations using real-world examples.

A simple example:

Say you have to memorize the speed of light and its equations:

You, c, are flying off to infinity on your shuttle 3.0

You are on full power, power 10

You have been travelling for 8 years

c = 3.0 x 10^8 m/s

(next one isn't as organized, so I underlined)

Suddenly, you find yourself approaching a huge planetary mass. You have to double yourself back to the control room, and it takes a lot of the ships' energy, but you manage to swerve out of the way.

E=mc^2

Those are extremely simple and silly examples, but making clever connections to imaginative situations can make memorizing equations and constants a lot easier. ;)
