Another solve for DudleyDude!
(I considered using ___ + AB, with "clothing" for a clue, but I thought that was too easy.)
-
Mediterranean fair = sea the light
former jerk = past the buck
punch clock = Awl the time
slow freeze = brake the ice
-
(And Thalia, storygirl101, one of your answers is correct.)
-
Gmm.
Asian bow = Thai the knot
Total mass = Worth the weight
-
Here lies a conductor
in reverie grim,
In life, he beat me -
In the end, I beat him.
-
This might be pedantic, but...
The tongue doesn't actually have separate regions for four basic tastes.
-
level measure = steady rate
Mediterranean fair = Venetian blond
slow freeze = Creeping chill
Asian bow = Chinese/Japanese noodle?
fruit slice = lemon wedge? (too literal, I think)
purchase order = climbing rank?
beyond weary = Past gone
-
Punch clock = Smash hit
Forward women = leading ladies
-
By and large, when you get it, you'll know (with the possible exception of the second, which may be a little obscure.
-
But if that's true, what's the king?
-
1. _____ + END
2. _____ + LLIE
3. _____ + E
4. _____ + DY
Clues, in no particular order:
camoflauge, protect, room, negative

I'm going to say...
Deciduous trees lose their leaves. Are we talking about a place where bones are lost from the skeleton? That would be the human mouth, where the teeth are.
If we add grass as hair, and the four chambers as relating to the brain's ventricles...
I'm guessing a human head.

I assume this isn't a non-metaphorical con artist, like a shell game operator or something. Hmm. Maybe...
A graffiti artist or vandal (play on the word "marks")
-
Well done, TheChad - that's it!

jippiidan: Nope
plasmid: Nope
plainglazed: That almost works! It definitely hits the last verse, and it mostly works for the first. I'll count it as "correct, but not expected."
For everyone else:
"I stare from my star" is a key line. You can't stare from most of these answers - you can't stare from the moon, or a lake, or a snowflake.
-
None of the above.
Miss Kitten: Close, but it doesn't work for the last verse.
-
A guess:
Using a floss-pick to clean teeth?
-
Another one that's been through a few drafts:
My star in the moonlight is white,
My star in the sunset is gold,
My star shines without making light,
My star is unpleasantly cold.
A point in a great constellation
When seen from below or afar,
At night, from a great elevation,
I stare from my star to a star.
What is my star?
(EDITED for improvements to verse and to remove dead giveaway clue.)

On the solution:
He wanders through a castle
That is and isn't his;
He almost always is a Dane,
And almost never is.
-
DudleyDude has it! Well-solved!
-
Very nice!

Hmm.
A wire.

Hmm. Given that kind of thinking, I see another answer:
