The reason you can't hear supersonic jets for a while after they pass is because the are far away and it takes time for the sound to reach you, not necceceraily because they are going faster than sound. 0 Guest
Everybody's a critic! Don't feel so bad about it. This is the basis of scientific progress, a bunch of grumps yelling at each other about how the world works. But I don't think that's quite what's going on here. So sit back and relax, while we make a list of possible alternatives. 1. Hope he's deaf. 2. Pass at a distance. 3. Take the subway. 4. Sit and wait for him to pass you, since passing is relative. 5. Hope he has an iPod
0 Guest
New thing: Pass without being heard. No disadvantages of any sort to person, in a bulky machine that makes noise, without a sound proof outside, not in a vacuum, nor on any material that stops sound, nor in a second dimension, not getting out of the machine, on ground level, and no secondary noises. And no I'm not planning on becoming a lawyer . Edited June 17, 2009 by Artem1620
0 Guest
in a bulky machine that makes noise... Considering that, you could take off your shoes and tip toe past him with ease, holding eye contact the whole time and mouthing, "Can't hear my footsteps over this racket, you 2nd rate hall monitor!" Btw, I should note that I took advantage of the ambiguity in the wording of your question, whereby the guy is in the machine.
