As I was going to Saint Ives,
I crossed the path of seven wives.
Every wife had seven sacks,
Every sack had seven cats,
Every cat had seven kittens,
Kittens, cats, sacks, wives,
How many were going to Saint Ives?

Another riddle from granny I just remembered:
There was a girl in our town,
Silk an' satin was her gown,
Silk an' satin, gold an' velvet,
Guess her name, three times I've telled it.

But also there may be others who weren't mentioned. There may be 1000 people going but they weren't mentioned.

As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives.
Each wife had seven sacks, each cat had seven cats.
Each cat had seven kits.
Kits, cats, sacks and wives, how many were going to St. Ives.
the met part was the big clue I kept missing till I was about 6. LOL
