THREE MEN GO TO A HOTEL AND ONLY WANT ONE ROOM. THE MAN AT THE FRONT DESK TELLS THEM THE ROOM WILL BE 30 DOLLARS. SO THEY EACH PAY 10 DOLLARS A PIECE. THEN THEY GO UP TO THE ROOM. THEN THE MAN AT THE FRONT DESK REALIZES HE CHARGED THEM TOO MUCH, SO HE TAKES 5 DOLLARS BACK TO THEM. HE FURTHER REALIZES THAT IT WONT BE EASY TO SPLIT THAT UP. SO HE PUTS 2 DOLLARS IN HIS POCKET FOR A TIP, AND GIVES THEM 3. SO THAT WOULD END UP COSTING THEM 9 DOLLARS A PIECE.
SO 9 X 3 = 27 + 2 =29, WHERES THE OTHER DOLLAR?

Very nice. I was like "wtf" for about 10 minutes until I figured out that
you pulled a trickaroo. It's not 3x9+2 that you need. If they gave $10 each and the bill was $25, then they overpaid by $5. Assume this was figured out at the door. They would give $9 each and get $2 change. $27 they gave - $2 = $25 bill. You don't make it add up to $30 because that was never paid.
Nice little puzzle though.

There's $25 in the till, $3 went back to the men and $2 went to the clerk. 25+3+2=30.
Here's a related puzzle. A man took his bride to the same hotel the next night. When he settled the bill in the morning the clerk said that will be $9 apiece. The man dutifully paid $81 and left, mumbling to himself.
Why?
