When you look for a bargain or a job you look through the ads, but you cant see through them.

i'm not quite sure- if you hold the sheet with the ads up to the light, you can sort of see through them, but not completely.
btw: not what i have
also for #004: true, but not my answer

Statman, I don't understand your answers to [1]. In what way can you not see through them?

The last time I checked, I couldn't see through a telescope, as it is a solid object. But, you can look through it's lenses when it is held to the eye.

Can you see through these? Maybe I just have bad eyesight, but they look fairly solid to me, and they seem to photograph well. You can, however, look through them.

Something else bugged me, radio telescopes and electron microscopes are only viewed from a sceen and not directly looked at/through. These are therefore excluded anyway, Hubble inclusive - is not looked through or viewe other than by computer re-imaging for the human eye.

Still need convincing - sorry!

Hard to come up with anything original at this stage, so some are a bit iffy:

001: What can you look through, but not see through? A kaleidoscope
002: What puts gold back into caves? Smugglers
003: What scales are not used for weighing? Beaufort, Richter?
004: What do you need, but when you have it, you don't know you've got it? Time (pretty lame answer, bonanova's is better)
005: What never asks questions, but gets many answers? Pub quiz team
006: What kind of people get congratulated when they are down and out? Firemen (after putting out blaze in tall building)
007: What goes up and down and side to side but never moves? 2 dimensional space
