Guest
In this alphametic, each of the capital letters denote a different digit from 0 to 9, with neither R nor S being zero. ROUTE + ROCKS = SUFFER, where R < C. What is the number that is represented by SUFFER?

0 Guest
Agreed SUFFER = 165578 through some elimination.
0 Guest
Variation: FYI, if you relax the constraint of R < C, then a solution can be derived as 158867.
0 Guest
If T can be zero, then OCK=UFFE, 2*9*4=8*3*3*1 and so SUFFER could equal 2160, 2520, or 3024. Why not? Edited August 14, 2009 by CrawD4ddy
0 Guest
If T can be zero, then OCK=UFFE, 2*9*4=8*3*3*1 and so SUFFER could equal 2160, 2520, or 3024. Why not? Because the problem isn't set up like that. SUFFER is a six digit number, not six numbers multiplied together. In your example, OCK=UFFE would be 294=8331. Each letter simply represents the number, not implying that they are multiplied together.
