Question

You are on your way to a far away land, lost to the jungle live two tribes. The 'Trusty-Cuddlies' and the 'Lying-Meanies'. The Trusty-Cuddlies always tell the truth and are very hospitable, they will adorn you with trinkets an welcome you with a feast. The Lying-Meanies always lie and are cannibals with a penchant for visitors.

By the time you arrive the sun is setting and being out so late is not a good idea. You stand at a fork in the jungle pathway: one direction heads to the Trusty-Cuddlies' village and the other leads to the Lying-Meanies' village. However, you don't know which way to go.

A man is standing nearby and as you are in a hurry you have time to ask one simple question.

What question could you ask to ensure that you receive correct directions to the Trusty-Cuddlies' village?

Ask him to point to his village and then take that road. A trusty man will point to the trusty village to tell the truth and a liar will point to the trusty village in order to lie.

Point at either path and ask him/her..."If I were to ask you if this path leads to the Trusty-Cuddlies, would you say yes?" He would be forced to give the right answer even if he was a liar.

oh boy...this thread will be locked very shortly, I assume...classic Honestants/Swindlecants problem that has been posted on this site more than any other riddle...it's a great one, but been done before...

has it been done with only one person standing at the fork in the road/path? The one I found says there are two people, but it might not matter I geuss, since you can ask only one question to one of the two. This version just makes for fewer possible questions that you could ask.
