Question

Tom and his younger sister were fighting. Their mother was tired of the fighting, and decided to punish them by making them stand on the same piece of newspaper in such a way that they couldn't touch each other.

How did she accomplish this?

How did she accomplish this?

She laid the newspaper underneath a closed door, and put the two children on opposite sides of it.

what if they laid down on their backs with their feet touching and the newspaper is vertical between the bottoms of their feet? like this:

0<-<|>->0

would that also work?

Welcome to the Den, zanther. I would like to direct your attention to rules of this forum (see "Important: READ BEFORE POSTING" at the top). Perform a search whenever you post a puzzle that you have not created (especially for oldies like this one). That way we ensure that you and everybody else always gets fresh puzzles and you don't have to read the same puzzle each week. For instance, search for "newspaper +door" and you'll find this puzzle posted twice last year.
