Question

A name much like a butterfly

Yet I did not meander

My friends all called me Nicholas

Or was it Alexander?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m salty, I’m dirty, I’m worn, but I’m tough
I’m sturdy when wet and the weather gets rough
They all come to me seeking profit with zeal
But I like the ones that come in at the wheel
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My letters are in order, but that’s not very fun

So half were put in answer two and half in answer one

I’m something rather powerful strewn wildly about

And though you cannot hear me, you’ll never tune me out

I believe it is Emperor, however, it could also be monarch.

But if you put your two suggestions together, it doesn't make sense. So someone's wrong somewhere....

what about an archer?

Mon -arch

leat[b]her

Hm..... but no. You'd still hear the arrow as it flew through the air, and if close enough, the twang the bow makes as the arrow's fired.

...And though you cannot hear me, you’ll never tune me out

This is the line that everyone has to keep in mind. What is it that isn't heard but is never tuned out?

Okay...... my stab at parts one and two:

tsar (or tzar)

sale - or sail

The problem with these two is that if I try to take them apart, I get gibberish and not the answer. :(

Very good logic Ketira.

You've got the first one, but think more "landward" for the second one

Thanks. Folk didn't remember their world History.... ;)

You've got the first one, but think more "landward" for the second one

Hm..... then maybe it's

denim

or

wagon

?

....but trying to put either two with #1 doesn't quite make sense either. My instincts tell me that your answer has to do with the Weather.

That's right riddlern00b, I stated they were in order, but I did not specify how many were in each answer (just that they were evenly distributed). And no, it is not an anagram. :)

But it doesn't mean that it's every letter. Maybe some are skipped. Or perhaps they are in alphabetical order. And what's killing me, is that I want to just say

Radiation

but I can't make that work at all.

1)tzar... 2)wagon... 3)argon!!

Katie, you and moonthirsty are getting close. But... look for half of the letters in each answer. And there are no 'skipped' letters in the words. You will literally take x number of letters from answer one and also x letters from answer two, put them together exactly as they are in the original words to form a new word. Example:

If the riddle were calling for a swashbuckler and you had

lathe + robin = he + ro = hero

that was actually a pretty good hint

Or if it asked for a king

client + front = li + on = lion

isn't as vague as that last example.

Keep trying! Oh and :)

"road" -- was a little too landward

something like a caravan or tent. still it doesnt make sense!

I like what you are thinking Shewolf020

a caravan or tent could be used for a market, a place of "profit" - and a caravan would certainly have a "wheel", many actually... but that wasn't what I intended. Notice I said "at the wheel", think on that for a bit and I think you might get it!
