0 Guest
Ideally both should drop at the same time if the environment is vacuum. However, since you have said that you did it out of the window, so air does play role to slow down the movement of the feather. Bowling ball hit the ground first. Unless there are some tricks there that I didn't notice.

0 Guest
It was a first story window and the school is built into a hill. You dropped the bowling ball from the side of the window farther from the ground and the feather you dropped from the side of the window where the ground is nearly touching the sil. The feather only fell a centimeter, whereas the bowling ball fell an inch. Or maybe there's a ten-foot hole in the ground where the bowling ball was aimed. 0 Guest
Actually, the bowling ball should have hit the ground first. If you were in a vaccum, such as on the moon, they would've hit at the same time. However, the feather is flat, light, and the right shape so that air resistance plays a big part in its acceleration downward. If you were to drop 2 items that had different masses yet very little air resistance, such as a bowling ball and a tennis ball, they would have hit the ground at the same time because Earth's gravity pulls all things in towards it at the exact same rate, 9.8 m/s^2 (9.8 m/s/s). However, since the feather has too much air resistance, it should not have been pulled down at the same speed.
0 Guest
This is the very famous experiment of Galileo. Three cases may happen-- 1. In free space (with no air) both will come down at the same time (due to same gravitational acceleration g) 2. In the presence of air, ball will come down first, because feather is more air resistant. 3. If you can put the feather on the surface of ball in such a way that it will face no air while going down (which is almost impossible), then they will come together. 0 Guest
Im SORRY it was in a vacum What, is your school on the moon or something? Here's what I want to know: How can you drop something out a window into a vaccum, and still survive?
