Guest Posted May 3, 2008 Report Share Posted May 3, 2008 did you ever think that if you took the lamb/sheep or what-ever it was over, then if you took the cabbage over, that while you went back for the she-wolf your lamb/sheep would have eaten the cabbage, so what would be the point? although in the same way, if you took the sheep/lamb or the she-wolf over first, then took the other one over, when you went back for the cabbage the wolf fould have eaten the sheep/lamb? And anyway, who would go out, buy a lamb (okay, a lamb to eat?) a cabbage (yes, we all need our veg) and a she-wolf (what the?) all at once? in one day at the same time? was there a sale on or something? *buy one lamb, and get a she-wolf free, only availble with cabbage* or were you planning a she-wolf-cabbage and lamb-ish stew? ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.....!!!!!! Guest Posted May 8, 2008 Report Share Posted May 8, 2008 First you take the she goat and drop her off on the other side of the river. leaving cabbage and wolf- Second you get the cabbage, drop it off- pick up the she goat again and head back a cross the river-leaving only the cabbage. Third drop off the she goat, pick up the wolf and bring it across the river and drop it off. Leaving wolf and cabbage on the other side again- Last you head back across the river and pick up the she goat and bring it back across. YOu set the cabbage on the bank and bring the goat back to the other side. Then you drop off the goat and get the wolf and take him to the other side. After this you go back and get the goat. How shall the farmer get everything on the other side (without any harm)? She-goat, Wolf and Cabbage - solution Take the she-goat to the other side. Go back, take cabbage, unload it on the other side where you load the she-goat, go back and unload it. Take the wolf to the other side where you unload it. Go back for the she-goat. That's it. Cabbage (Wolf wont eat the cabbage, apparently he likes she-goats) 3. She-Goat (Last trip, you will be there so nobody eats anything!) Drop the wolf off and take the goat back to the other side. 4. Pick up the cabbage after the goat is dropped off. 5. Drop cabbage off with the wolf. 6. Return to pick up the goat. Farmer -> Returns to side where goat is. Farmer -> Takes goat to other side. We can also now tweak this a little bit so it will be: 2nd Situation: Farmer -> Takes Cabbage to other side. Farmer -> Returns and brings and wolf to other side. Farmer -> Returns once more and brings the goat to the other side. 3rd Situation: Farmer -> Takes goat and cabbage to the other side. Farmer -> Brings back cabbage and takes the wolf and the goat to the other side. In this way, there are many combinations that can work, but only a few make sense, unlike this one: Weird Situation: Farmer -> Takes cabbage to the other side. Farmer -> Brings it back. Ferry the wolf across and then return the goat to the boat to get the cabbage. Once there swap the goat for the cabbage and take the cabbage over. Guest Posted July 29, 2008 Report Share Posted July 29, 2008 My favourite. and im sick of tired here people use logic. i mean logic by like "why not take the cabbage with teh goat. so much easier LOL!" fine, if you put it that way, just substitute it with three friends, for example, and they all weigh the same, can only take one at a time, and friend A and B will bicker, while friend B and C will bicker if you leave them alone. same thing. its not about common sense or so called logic, but problem solving. i have many ways of arguing that this riddle is not possible. bringing a goat with a wolf in the first place is impossible, the wolf could've also killed you before, the cabbage might be rotten and the goat you have hates rotten cabbage... etc. its bullsh*t. dont think of it that way. please. it ruins the fun. anyhow Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Then he'll take the wolf, leave him on the other side and return with the she-goat to where the cabbage still lies . Leaving the she-goat there, he takes the cabbage to the other side and leaves it with the wolf . Then he comes back and finally takes the she-goat back again onto the other side . In this manner, he finally has crossed with his cabbage, she-goat and wolf to the other side of the river without having lost any of his possessions .
