Question

A Man opens a door and looks around. Upon seeing no one, he walks to the tallest building in the area, climbs the stairs to the top floor and jumps off. Halfway to the ground, he hears a phone ringing and knows he has made a mistake.

Why?

The Hint is in the title

Okay, so maybe there is a man living in Hiroshima or Nagasaki. He survives initial explosion of the bomb, but thinks that all human life has died, as he has no way of knowing those two cities were only two to suffer that fate. Phone call means people still alive. oops.
