0 Guest Posted March 2, 2010 Report Share Posted March 2, 2010 The code was a letter substitution scheme, but it was based on the position of the letter within the message. The first word of the cyphertext has three letters -- ZQX. You subtract the position from the cyphertext letter to get the plaintext letter. So, subtract 1 from Z, 2 from Q and 3 from X giving YOU for the plain text. The resulting message was YOU GOT IT START YOUR RESPONSE WITH A FIVE WORD SENTENCE You had to consider both lines as all one message. So, if your first response sentence had five words then you showed that you solved the code (or maybe you were lucky, as in one case). Some people also responded using the same code.
