For $1, you could have .99 cents with a pocket full of 99 pennies. The more feasible answer, however, would be 3 quarters (75c), 2 dimes (95c total) and 4 pennies (99c total). For $2, you just add $1 in quarters to the previous answer. For $5, add $4 in quarters. Obviously, the most you can have without being able to make change would be 1 cent less than the total in question.
0 Guest
3 quarters; 4 dimes; 4 pennies - $1.19 for $2, 7 quarters, 4 dimes, 4 pennies - $2.19 ? for $5; 19 quarters, 4 dimes, 4 pennies - $5.19 ? 0 Guest
This could make a fun probability problem too True. Something like.... Assume you have 10 each of quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies. What are the odds that you can make change for a dollar if you pull out 5 coins? 10 coins? I haven't done the math yet, but I will if I have to. I want someone to do it for me.
