Question

Meant just for good fun, like one from before.

Solve the five below, and then there is more.

Smaller in a sense, yet off the charts I can be.

Most common of man or deserted possibly.

Sometimes they'll listen, so get it off you should.

From me you would surely escape if you could.

Since no belly-aching's allowed, and he also cant fight.

We're hard to resist because the prices so right.

Found if taken over a period of time.

Make opinions count, like how 'bout this rhyme?

Similar to Eve just is not so poetic.

Served with haste, short and phonetic.

To begin the next step, a key you will need.

Entitling you to, the final answer indeed.

not sure how this works toward the final answer, but you can put the 5 vowel in front of the answers to derive new words.

A + ISLE = aisle

E + VENT = event

I + DEALS = ideals

O + RATE = orate

U + NITE = unite

If I had to pick a single word answer, I'd guess 'wedding'.

Hoooooooly Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaap. Amazing.

I am blown away, that was truly a fantastic riddle. So well planned, and well written. We shouldn't have needed the rewrite(s), the original was brilliant and put us right where we needed to be. We just took the guessing in the wrong direction. Again, fabulous. *tips hat in your direction*

I totally agree. Fantasic job, PG. I only wish I'd been in town to work on it from the beginning :)

Great riddle and great solving guys! I wish I had been around when it was solved.

Question though... could I see an explanation for all the parts of the second word?

I don't get why you'd want to run away from vents (they provide AC!), and I also don't get:

T'is the center half of the one for which it's known. - ummmmmmmmmm

Left to his own devices, he "devices" on his own. - left of "devices" is "ev," where's the "ent"?

Also, I knew the overall answer would involve adding letters! =)

GJ juskiknback for the second word! And DD, and PG, and everybody elssssssssssssssse

If I understand your questions:

The second line of the OP - "From me you would surely escape if you could" - that's not you in particular but anything so it's really just stating the purpose of a vent; to provide an escape route. If something (even you) are in a vent, you would naturally (surely) escape/be let out.

The added alternative lines:

T'is the center half of the one for which it's known. - the one for which it's known is supposed to refer to an inventor.

Left to his own devices, he "devices" on his own. - this line as well describes an inventer. "devices" or makes a device

and the "T'is the center half of... = inVENTer

Ah, gotcha.

For a long time I'd thought that the first of the added lines intended for you to look at the middle of a synonym for "fame" like renowned, but I never thought of something that fit. Obviously =P
