Question

Per chicory's request, honest, and feel obliged since (s)he solved my last WAI (you really should at least set the gender on your profile cuz it's he and chic from here on out). Think I made these a little tougher but the first two may reveal a theme, simplifying the rest somewhat. Enjoy...

Stinky, sleeping, and sheltered sounds. (6)

Existing liscense sporting injury safehouse rightly belittled. (6)

Rate posting outlines airline disclaimer prior to surgical requirement. (8)

Tiny leftward circuit shortened route nano seconds is one reason. (8)

Good male, small male, stuck in Michigan area code ward. (7)

Mass retreat of daytime soldier sounding without limits. (6)

Reflection: "Short pathway between mythical 12th and 13th tells the meaning of blindness." (9)

One lines up to say love is more questionable. (8)

For those new to these Play on Word "Quickies" - Each word or two (generally speaking) of the puzzle corresponds to a letter or two (generally speaking) "spelling" out the answer. Other descriptors can be thrown in refering to the relation of individual letters. The letters will "read" left to right as presented unless there is a descriptor that directs otherwise. For the most part, punctuation is not part of the answer but rather to make the clue read better. Other than that, the clues are very precise. There are no unnecessary words in the clues or extra letters in the answers. It's best to read these very literally. The numbers in parenthesis indicate the number of letters in the answer.

I want this word to be conundrum,

pathway= rd

between = director

mythical 12th= mu

13th = nu

meaning of blindness NO C , U NO C

mu was one of 12 mythical gold saints, but i can't justify nu

mythical 12th and 13th could mean the 12th and 13th letters of the Greek (mythical) alphabet: MU and NU

You guys got it. Along with Wilsons solving of the last, or is that first, three letters.

Reflection: "Short pathway between mythical 12th and 13th tells the meaning of blindness." (9)

-- Reflection: = all of the following in reverse

-- pathway = road, short = RD

-- mythical 12th and 13th are the Greek letters MU and NU

-- between directs RD between MU and NU

-- the meaning of blindness = no see, tells = sounds like = NOC

-- MU RD NU NOC reflected = CONUNDRUM

Some really good stuff here. You need to go down a different path for good male. As for small male, it's the other obvious one from your first post. Can also say you left out a good thought you had in your last post.

Recap

Spoiler for more bits:

good male = A man

small male= am, boy, m, gram

in michigan = MamanamI, MamangramI

area = A,

code=

ward= guard,watch,see,c,

I want this one to be Anagram, but haven't justified.

Spoiler for :

not Anagram, of all the above, one of your small males works (the obvious one)

QUOTE (hugemonkey @ Jun 21 2009, 04:31 PM) *

Good male, small male, stuck in Michigan area code ward. (7)

Spoiler for Thoughts...:

Good - This could be A or B as is school grades or it could be AA or AAA as in good grades of food

male - M, MAN, GUY

small - S, SM, WEE, TOT, with second male could be BOY

stuck in - sounds like a director word like put the previous letters in the next part

Michigan - could be MI; area - A

or Michigan area could be - UP for upper peninsula

code - sounds like another director word possibly meaning anagram.

ward - see - C or possibly just to be used with code.

It's been so long I nearly forgot where I was coming from with this one. You're gonna like it when you get it finished. I just did

all over again. small male is correct as is another part which is key to this solution. Well done! Oops, didnt say which part but

you'll have it shortly I'm sure. Also, good male when discovered, I guarantee, will be the definitive answer for that clue.

Spoiler for had a thought that, possibly:

area code -> () -> O?

& another random thought: good male -> USPS, PO

sorry tiger, clever, but not what will fit with the rest of this one. good male is different as well. you're gonna like that one

when you figure it out. definitely the definitive answer for that clue.

Spoiler for stuck on 5:

good male= gmail, AM,

small male =boy

Michigan = northern state, lake,

area code= phone? phoneme

ward= charge, +or -, hospital protect

nada, there has been some good work on this one in prior posts, think hugemonkey had a very important piece of this one.

Well I can see where me saying you had a good thought in your last post where I had actually responded "nada" might throw you off a little. My bad. Now feel obliged to say that it has to do with one of your thoughts re "ward"

good = G

male = xy

small male =m

in michigan =mi

area = up (upper peninsula)

migxybup

code ward =guarded by code (unscramble)

byg mix up = BIG MIX UP

Now chicory, that's a little too mixed up, dont you think?

for small male is correct. Good male is something else and code ward is something else.

Really all I can say without confusing or giving it away.

good male = AMan, Alpha male = A

small male = m

in Michigan = MamI

area = UP, LP MIamup , UamP or A UmP , LamP

code ward = key, eye, ay

Dont get frustrated, am confident you're gonna get this one. I had left an unlabeled clue in my reply to you at post #57. So now it's labeled--kind of. Dont know how much I should or that you want me to reveal. Above it looks to me like you have used Michigan twice; cull one of those.

[spoiler=What We *Think* We Know for #5?" :huh: ]small male = boy

stuck in -> director? (N?)

Michigan -> MI

Area -> A?

OR

Michigan Area -> UP?

Code -> anagram?

Ward -> charge, +or -, hospital, protect

Mr., as in "Mr. Good" ?

I probably missed a hint somewhere ... I usually do. :P

Hail, hail, the gangs mostly here. Hope to clarify.

small male is not boy

stuck in is indeed a director

Michigan area is good

Code is not a director

This may be enough to fill in the blanks and get you "Good man" from the answer. I had left chicory an unlabeled hint in post #57 I think it was about "Good man"

If so, yup, sure am!!! :lol:

STUMPED ?
:huh:

good male = saint, ST

small male = M

stuck in -> director

Michigan Area = UP

Still don't got Code Ward ... :P:blink:

Ha! :lol: and oh so close :) . Great job, the first five letters and explanation are exactly right. Need a different last two which hopefully suggests the reasoning behind them.

Code for a special Ward = ER

STUMPER!

Ha!

code ward = ER

Yay Tiger Lily!

You got it. Well done. Gotta include hugemonkey in the committee for the original UP thought. I apologize if that clue was not general knowledge within the non U.S. crowd. Will try to be more sensitive in the future. Hope the "Good male" was satisfying afterall?
