Question

There is a word, I can’t seem to explain,

Without accidentally using it again.

Something about the past, but future realigned.

To have been done, if you were so inclined.

Sometimes regret, is often my thought.

Or a passing idea that maybe one ought.

should

Oooooh!!!!! Now you're SO close, I ought to give it to you. But, you see, it's kind of hard to distinguish between your word and mine. Yours probably fits the riddle better than mine. But, humor me and try to think of mine. : )

could or would? I wrote a poem about the diference between the three, and the thought just slamed me in the face.

You have the answer: WOULD. Yes, to find a difference between the three is tough, huh?

There is a word, I can’t seem to explain,

Without accidentally using it again. How can you explain would?

Something about the past, but future realigned.

To have been done, if you were so inclined. I would have done that, if I had seen into the future(which is now the past).

Sometimes regret, is often my thought.

Or a passing idea that maybe one ought. I regret that I didn't do that.

the difference between would and should is, "I should do that" vs. "I would have done that."

(Future vs. past).

Yay! My first one right!

What about this

I should have done that....I could have done that.....I would have done that....all are in the past

What about "should have done"? I think the best answer for it is

could-- was able to do (but didn't, unless speaking hypothetically)

would-- wanted to do (but didn't, unless speaking hypothetically)

should-- needed to do (but didn't, unless speaking hypothetically)

Can you tell what I do for a living?

I don't think WOULD has to do with want, but rather, has to do with the word "if", which I SHOULD have added, if I "Could" have thought of , but I "Didn't."

That sounds about right. ;)
