- to be = two B = BB

- a ladder unfolded = shape of the letter A

- Look = see = C

- a famous jeweler = Kaye = K

- A thesis = essay = SA

- (but not the Canadian) = not, aye (per John B) = SA - A = S

- Zip = zero = O

- Zero = O

- Almost the middle of Winter = N or T (the two letters in middle of winter = N (in this case)
