Question

I’m going to show you our family tree.

Unlike yours, ours begins with three.

We all had fun and started to mix,

And then we became a bunch of six..

A threesome we had,

And that ended bad,

But we still kept the baby, for kicks.

Two more folks who were not the same,

Jumped right in, playing our game.

Now we are meshed, with a tan or not.

Now we lost track of the numbers we’ve got.

color wheel?
But what about "we kept the baby for kicks?

with primary colors 3 red blue yellow can make secondary (baby) colors...

I don't know why for kicks. :(

and then the threesome (tertiary colors) worked out bad but then the baby thing?

The last part with two more came (black and white it would seem) makes sense/fits so I still think you're right.

Wow, I was so happy to see so much talk on my topic. I guess CHICORY is the winner. But you all seemed to be a bit confused about the baby.

BROWN. When all three colors get together and have a threesome, you get brown.

Black and white were the strangers. And yeah. I didn't go into details of all colors. I just started with Primaries, went onto secondaries, then brown, then the shades that black and white cause. I loved all your thoughts on the subject. Made me very proud of the riddle.
