Question

Just a supple hourglass

That holds the gold that others cast

A measure cup now filling up

Better check it fast.

Little clinging wings in flight

Embracing love both day and night

A feast I keep within my grasp

I hold it true and tight.

My life is brief my fate ensured

An earthen pit my fit reward,

At least I meet the gold I greet

From wellspring or a sword.

While it sort of fits, a garbage bag isn't the usual type of subject matter for our resident bard, Shakee.

Other things like "plastic" in general seem to fit better, but not much. I think I'm in the right neighborhood, but still knocking on doors, to complete the metaphor.

"My life is brief my fate ensured

An earthen pit my fit reward,"

this line makes me think, that whatever it is, it is disposable and will end up in a landfill.

Bah, I need another cup of tea.

I seriously doubt that this is what you had intended, but it just fits too well:
a prophylactic, likely of the female variety

I would not rule it out, that's for sure, plasmid. I anxiously await Shakee's notes on our attempts thus far.

I dare say I might have been the inspiration for this one!

I a disposable diaper!

Too clever, Shakee, and thanks. ;)

Grayven, this one was indeed written with you in mind! LOL! I expected you to peg it right off the bat. It was touch and go there but well done in the end!

Shake

I was sitting here with Lyra in my arm  , re-reading the riddle... when it hit me  .
