Question

A man is in the ocean. His wife is sitting on the beach, setting up lunch. She finishes and says:

"Marcus, it's the fifth hour, time to eat lunch!"

How is it possible that lunch is at five?

:o:o:o

:)

The two are in Ancient Rome. Back then, the fifth hour could be lunchtime (Around noon.) The fifth hour meant the fifth hour of sunlight, so the sun could have risen at our 7 o' clock. Get it?

There were times in college where I pulled an all nighter to finish a project for an 8am class; and when you sleep from 9am to 4pm, 5pm is lunch.

Some (modern day) Ethiopians use a 12-hour clock, with one cycle of 1 to 12 from dawn to dusk, and the other cycle from dusk to dawn. Unlike the convention in most countries, the start of the day is dawn, rather than midnight. Thus, 7:00 AM in East Africa Time corresponds to 1:00 in daylight hours in local Ethiopian time. 12:00 noon EAT is 6:00 in daylight hours, and 6:00 PM EAT is 12:00 in local time. (See Wikipedia Time in Ethiopia)
