Alcohol/Drunkenness and the affliction of the mind AND body elements of it is a hint. voodoo and witchcraft are the closest guesses thus far. ...i'm clueless. The placebo effect was what I was after. I would probably have accepted answers in the form or 'new age medicine' or something like that. Did you like the wording of the riddle? The rhymes and such?
