Question

(I've tried "search" and I've looked over the various forums, and I can't find examples of this. I'm sorry if I've duplicated a post.)

I like BUTTER but I don't like GOATS

-----------------------------

For people who haven't played this game, here's how it works in general:

First, the OP makes a statement of the form "I like xxxx but I don't like yyyy".

Then, players ask questions.

You can ask, "Do you like zzz?"

--the OP will answer "Yes, I like zzz" or "No, I don't like zzz"

--if the OP wants to show off his/her erudition and/or quick thinking, he/she will answer as much as possible with something like "Yes, I like zzz, but I don't like www" or "No, I don't like zzz, but I DO like www"

If a player wants to show off how well they understand the OP's rule, their query might take the form,

"I bet you like qqq" or

"I bet you don't like qqq"

The OP will answer as before.

If a player wants to guess THE RULE, he/she should put it in a spoiler. If it's wrong, the OP will expose the guess, along with a counterexample. If it's right, the OP will congratulate the player, and announce that the rule is now known. (Might leave the game in play, I suppose. How do you folks do this in MasterWord?

I see that in Masterword, the OP's responses contain all past queries and answers. That seems very humane. That should probably be done here, too.

I'll bet you like FACETIOUS but you don't like JOCULAR

I absolutely do. I bet you know the rule, I'm just hoping this isn't another "you like CARDS and KINGS but not ACES" situation.

CaptainEd has gotten it, but I am really at a loss. What am I missing?

Yes CaptainEd has gotten it, he sent me the rule ina PM, but he wanted to let the other players try and figure it out too. I can give a hint about a rule though.

The rule has to do with the letters that make up each word, not the actual meanings of the words (this hint is kind of obvious).

Spoiler for This is a more obvious hint.:

The rule has to do with vowels.

Spoiler for This hint might give it away.:

The rule has to do with vowels, ONLY.

:duh: So you like Nero, but not Rome. You like a Strawberry but not a blueberry. You like gravy but not au jous.

I am embarrassed that I needed the hint.

That's right. It's one of those "Aw, it's so obvious to me now!" kind of rules.

Most people have figured out the rule, so I'm gonna spell it out now so that someone else can take over the next game.

I like words where all the vowels are in alphabetical order. (Tricky eh?)

Akaslickster, here's a convenience you can perform for us readers--if you combine all your responses in each post, then nobody has to read the whole thread. For example, the answers you've given so far are:

I like peanut but I don't like akaslickster

I like pics but I don't like mirrors

I like rifle but I don't like gun

I like cold but I don't like heat

I like milk but I don't like tea

A "not very tough" rule is probably just exactly the right amount of toughness--even simple rules are tricky to discern. Yours has me scratching my head...which is a good thing.

Thanks but, now it's too easy.

EDIT:Gmaster479 had guessed it.

Though I'm not telling. :P
