Question

(I've tried "search" and I've looked over the various forums, and I can't find examples of this. I'm sorry if I've duplicated a post.)

I like BUTTER but I don't like GOATS

-----------------------------

For people who haven't played this game, here's how it works in general:

First, the OP makes a statement of the form "I like xxxx but I don't like yyyy".

Then, players ask questions.

You can ask, "Do you like zzz?"

--the OP will answer "Yes, I like zzz" or "No, I don't like zzz"

--if the OP wants to show off his/her erudition and/or quick thinking, he/she will answer as much as possible with something like "Yes, I like zzz, but I don't like www" or "No, I don't like zzz, but I DO like www"

If a player wants to show off how well they understand the OP's rule, their query might take the form,

"I bet you like qqq" or

"I bet you don't like qqq"

The OP will answer as before.

If a player wants to guess THE RULE, he/she should put it in a spoiler. If it's wrong, the OP will expose the guess, along with a counterexample. If it's right, the OP will congratulate the player, and announce that the rule is now known. (Might leave the game in play, I suppose. How do you folks do this in MasterWord?

I see that in Masterword, the OP's responses contain all past queries and answers. That seems very humane. That should probably be done here, too.

Star_Tiger, I certainly don't wish to duplicate work. Does your comment mean that this is an inappropriate topic?

oh, not at all. Simply commenting :) Also, this is slightly different to the one Peace started a while ago, and as she said, I'm glad this is back :D

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that this topic is not inappropriate, but do the same thing that Masterword is doing. Keep all of the games of this type in this thread, and just play them sequentially.

When I look at the Masterwords, I see a few dozen "topics", each appearing to be a separate game. Is that what you mean by using the "same thread"?

I mean the same topics. If you'll notice, some of the later Masterwords were locked, and all of them directed to the same topic.

Cool, thanks!

By the way, I like TOPICS but I don't like THREADS

And, folks, the last rule guess was wrong, so the running situation is:

I like...but I don't like

TOPICS...THREADS

CONFLICT...DISAPPOINTMENT

COPPER...BAUXITE

POOLS...SAUNAs

BUTTER...GOATS

COPPER...BAUXITE

POOLS...SAUNAs
