Unidentifed Flying Riddle

Question

Spinning in orbit, flying in space,

Circling moons the project,

Don’t confuse me with a saucer that flies—

I’m a long identified object.

For thousands of years I’ve been in sight,

To some a target, to others delight,

Wide my girth and minor my height,

Simplicity begs the logic!

Now if you look closely, I have no end,

Though I surely embrace a middle,

And when I am done I might descend

Upon a planet to settle.

Now here is a clue that may not fail:

My name evokes an exotic tale.

If you believe you’re on the trail,

Then please appease this riddle!

a hoola hoop

Wheeeeeeeee!!!!!

Well, spinning in space and circling "moons" is self explanatory. The Hula hoop has been around for millenia, though not called a "hula" hoop, of course. Egyptians used them as toys to roll along the ground. Greeks used them for exercise, Indians used them for play and for target practice with arrows and spears. It "embraces one's middle" when in use and as a hoop, has no particular end. The Hula is an exotic dance that tells a tale. When the hoop stops spinning, it will often drop to the ground (earth).

Wow Rodriguez, that's some quick thinking outside the box! I think I will have to toughen these up a bit ;)

it's
the moon?

It specifically says,

"I'm a long identified object" or something like that.

Anyway, unless there's a pencil shaped moon, you're wrong. <_<

Besides, it's probablly a

Comet comet comet! And yes it's tail qualifies it as a long object, because gas is still mass.

"Long Identified" applies to anything that has long since been identified. Long:relating to a long time. We've long since known about the moon.
